Bellmore-Merrick CHSD Policy on Concert Attendance
All students enrolled in performance ensembles in the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District are required to participate in scheduled concerts during the school year. These performances act as the summative assessments of materials learned, rehearsed, and polished during class. Each major concert reflects a semester’s worth of work by the students. The individual contributions of all students to the ensemble are paramount to the success of these performances.
The District recognizes that under extreme circumstances, unforeseen absences from these concerts may occur. When a legitimate, unanticipated absence due to illness or family emergency occurs, the student may make up the concert performance by completing an alternate assessment to be determined by the Director. A written explanation of all excused absences must be provided to the Director within 48 hours following the concert if an alternate assessment is to be given. PLEASE NOTE: Attendance at extra-curricular activities both for the school and of a personal nature DOES NOT qualify as an excused absence. As such, no alternate assessment will be provided and the student’s quarterly grade will be negatively impacted.
