Mrs. Brandwein attended the University at Buffalo as a music education major, with a vocal performance specialty, where she graduated summa cum laude. She performed numerous solo recitals and was a vocal coach and accompanist for other musicians at the university. Mrs. Brandwein even had the supreme honor of singing at the university graduation for over 7000 people. In December of 2001, she completed a masters in general education, with a concentration in music education, also at the University of Buffalo. As a graduate student, Mrs. Brandwein had the opportunity to conduct the university choir.
While in college, Mrs. Brandwein took it upon herself to start and direct an all female a cappella group called the Royal Pitches, whose main focus was performing mainstream music. Under her direction, the nationally recognized group wooed audiences with their impressive vocals, energy, choreography, and unique sense of humor. Her talent and leadership led the group to local publicity. They appeared on the Buffalo CBS news affiliate station and some other local television stations. They performed in numerous venues and have toured other universities. Mrs. Brandwein also wrote two jingles for a Buffalo radio station, which were performed by the Royal Pitches. She helped produce the group’s CDs and led the group to various collegiate competitions (just like the one in the movie Pitch Perfect) whereupon she received an award for best arrangement.
Mrs. Brandwein has written and produced her own songs of the Pop/R&B genre, three of which have been published by a small publishing company. She has also collaborated with other producers. In 2004, she recorded Luv Me 4 Eva, an upbeat reggae/hip-hop track, for producer and Strong Island Records owner Bobby “LA” LaSerra. The song was played on 106.1, WBLI, on their “Live From Flannagan’s” radio show. She also provided vocals on another reggae/hip-hop track by Bobby, which features Jamaican reggae artist Muziah. Both songs are featured on Strong Island Records reggae compilation CD, Dancehall Jump Up!, Volume 1. In 2005, she worked with house music producer and dj, DJ Dove. She wrote a song to a dance track produced by Dove, which was purchased by house music label Essence Records UK and was released in June of 2006. The song became quite popular amongst house music aficionados and club-goers in Europe. Mrs. Brandwein turned to the world of children's music in 2007 where she played keyboards and sang in an original children's music group called BoyintheShade. The group produced two CDs that received great reviews from some popular parenting magazines, including Working Mother. BoyintheShade was also featured on the Today in New York show on NBC and toured the east coast. While Mrs. Brandwein still loves to perform and create music, her latest venture is her family. Mrs. Brandwein loves spending time with her husband, step-son, and daughter aptly named Melody… of course!
